(English translation)
ALL: The most beautiful paintings are those which you dream about when you lie in bed smoking a pipe, but which you never paint.
GAUGUIN: We dream and then we paint quietly.
GAUGUIN AND VAN GOGH: Thus Rembrandt painted angels. He paints a portrait of himself… in a mirror. He is still dreaming and…painting an unearthly angel….painting from imagination

(English translation)
GAUGUIN: One day I shall flee into the rainforest, on an island in Oceania, and I shall live there in ecstasy, in quietness and in art. Surrounded by a new family, far away from this European battle for money. There, in Tahiti, in the quietness of the beautiful tropical nights, I shall be able to listen to the sweet music of my heartbeat in loving harmony with the mysterious beings around me. Finally free, without having to worry about money, I shall be able to love, sing and die.
